7/10

Telltale Games have done an excellent job in this new Sam and Max series, but unfortunately it has come to an end with The City That Dares Not Sleep. In this season finale, every mystery is unveiled and it will surely blow your mind when you get hit by the unveiling of everything you questioned through the season.

We have left Sam and Max in their final battle with Charlie Ho-Tep trying to stop him from bringing Junior, the son of Yog-Soggoth to this world from the Dark Dimension or as Messier Papierwaite says it, ‘De Dark Dimenxion’. In this process, Sam and Max manage to finally destroy the Devil’s Toy Box once and for all along with a very shameful and un-dignified imprisonment of Charlie Ho-Tep in the Dark Dimension. Max is disturbed by a mysterious force and falls from the sky, safely landing on a Demon Seed. Little he knew what was coming to him as he started to feel sick and transformed into a raging behemoth of biblical proportions heading to the city for mayhem, chaos and total annihilation of The City That Dares Not Sleep.

The story, firstly starts with the narrator of the game revealing that one of the characters in the series will betray our beloved Freelance Police and then continues in Bosco-Tec laboratory where Sam, Momma Bosco, Messier Papierwaite + Dr. Norringthon, Agent Superball who was now taken the presidency, Mr. Featherly and the C.O.P.S gang. It seems that the only way to stop Max is by obliteration him into pieces and Sam i.e. you, must do all there is to bring Max to his normality, and quickly!

The name of this episode was a bit confusing at first but after seeing the introduction of the game, it was all clear. When I saw the flaming Max heads spewing from monster Max, my mind clicked. Apart from being very annoying they are constantly trying to get everyone to sleep!

In this episode there are a lot of returning characters from the series like Sal, the Samulcra, the brain of Sammun-Mak, Lincoln and Sybil Pandemik who is at about 8 months of pregnancy from Lincoln. She is the key to get Max to normality by getting inside him and removing the infection from the seed, but getting inside is the problem. This is your first mission in the game. As regards to new characters, well you cannot miss the annoying Max heads which spew from monster Max and Mr. Featherly and the mysterious game narrator.

The storyline reveals a lot of mysteries and the plot is well constructed, keeping the wacky formula of the Sam and Max series. In this episode you will also learn why Max is so sarcastic and weird with his ‘Super-Ego’. The episode is quite enjoyable and the sarcastically comic dialog is as always great and extremely funny. The only thing to say about this episode is that is quite easy to complete and short. Although some of the puzzles are tricky, it was fairly easy to solve them.

Conclusion

As always, Sam and Max are always funny and Telltale Games have done a great job in this season and the past. I loved this episode but the fact that it was a bit short and easy to complete slightly diverted me from the full enjoyment of the episode. The Storyline is very good and the plot was constructed well.
